Conductor: Marijke van Klaveren

Marijke van Klaveren studied choral conducting, school music, organ and church music at the conservatories of The Hague and Rotterdam. She has been the conductor of the Voorburgs Vocaal Ensemble since 1987.

Marijke has extensive experience in conducting various types of choirs (oratorio society, chamber choir, children’s and youth choir, women’s choir, senior choir).

In addition to conducting the VVE, Marijke also conducts two day-choirs for sopranos and altos: Dagkoor Voorburg and Dagkoor Scheveningen.

She is affiliated with the Academy of Vocal Arts (ACVA) in The Hague as location manager, teacher and conductor. She was the initiator of this institution, which focuses on vocal training and musical education for children, 35 years ago. She is also the principal subject teacher of the course for children’s choir conductors, which is affiliated with the ACVA.

Marijke van Klaveren taught for many years at the Royal Conservatoiry in The Hague. She was the principal subject teacher of church music and  teacher of ensemble singing, music theory and solfège.

She is currently working on a new methodfor music theory: Music Theory Basics. This method can be easily combined with the solfège method Jongleren.

She gives workshops in the field of (children’s) choir conducting and is a regular jury member in domestic and international choir competitions and festivals.
