Marijke van Klaveren studied choral conducting, school music, organ and church music at the conservatories of The Hague and Rotterdam. She has been conductor of the Voorburg Vocal Ensemble since 1987. She has conducted many other choirs and ensembles, such as the Voorburg Oratorio Society, the Wassenaar Chamber Choir and the Hague Children’s Choir.
She teaches ensemble singing, music theory and solfège at the School for Young Talent at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. She is also the initiator and teacher at the AcVA, the Academy of Vocal Arts (formerly Kinderkoor Academie Nederland); in addition to teaching the children there, she is also senior lecturer of the national specialisation course in Children’s Choir Conducting, which is housed at the AcVA.
She also conducts the Dagkoor, the Voorburg women’s choir for seniors. She is a much sought-after jury member at international choir festivals at home and abroad, for children’s and youth choirs as well as adult choirs.
She has also given many courses and workshops in various areas of (children’s and youth) choir conducting: voice training, conducting technique, repertoire building, etc.
